Rounders England has the privilege of working alongside a number of Delivery Partners, who are not only experts in their field of sports but have the passion for rounders to match!
This week we focus on Plymouth Sports, whose summer league welcomed over 100 participants!
The 2017 league kicked off on July 5th with glorious sunshine. The sessions were planned to be delivered every Wednesday for four weeks. The league was promoted via email to workplaces and organisations who had previously taken part in the Sports Development Unit’s activities and a big shout out took place on social media. The reputation and fantastic promotion resulted in the league being oversubscribed!
Ben Kerswell, Sport & Recreation Assistant, told Rounders England how great it was to see people’s enthusiasm for rounders! Whether it was during training sessions, playing in a game or turning up with a full team and subs every week – it was all great! At the end of the league, having won their first game, the ‘Easier Said Than Run’ team (pictured) won the ‘Most Enthusiastic Team Award’.
The league had three weeks of glorious weather and then the Great British Weather came and stayed for the next four weeks! Despite this, the feedback received was very positive, with 75% of respondents saying the rounders league has encouraged them to become more active and one participant stating “I love Rounders, can’t wait till next year”.
Towards the end of the league, there were over 100 participants, 8 teams, 755 rounders scored, 25 games and lot of rain drops! The top two teams were level on points, but based on the rounders scored throughout the league, the win went to the Bright Solicitors Team! Congratulations to everyone involved…winter league anyone??
A big thank you goes to Plymouth City Council for all their hard work in delivering Rounders. You are truly passing on the passion and we love working alongside you!
