Last week saw the first University tournament of 2018, hosted by the University of Northampton and organised by Essex Blades President, Josh Pike. With a total of 5 Universities and 6 teams, each ready to give it their all, it was a fantastic day and we can’t wait to see more from these great teams!
On Wednesday 14th March the University of Northampton welcomed and hosted a University Rounders Tournament. They were great hosts, having two pitches ready to go and the opportunity to play with Rounders England approved equipment from Aresson. Rounders England members, Essex Blades did a brilliant job at organising fixtures and providing the Captain’s brief. Rounders England would like to give a big shout out to Essex Blades President, Josh Pike, for organising such a fantastic opportunity for other University teams to be a part of!
With six teams and two pitches, the 2 bye teams Umpired and kept the games in good shape. The standard of play was good and the team spirit was equally matched by their passion for the game. Teams included Essex Blades, Manchester Met, Liverpool John Moore, Northampton, and Winchester.
The final saw Essex Blades v Winchester Bats play for the winning spot. Rounders England Engagement Officer, Rose Batty, who attended the event says;
It was a great final to watch and the Northampton Umpires did an excellent job at holding their council on the most spectated game of the day. The whole tournament had a fantastic atmosphere!”
Congratulations to the Winchester Bats who were crowned winners and a big thank you to all the teams for leading, participating and creating a first class opportunity for University students to take part in this great game! Competition is a strategic objective and ambition for Rounders England 2017-2021strategy…so watch this space for more competition coming soon!
