Rashida Salloo gets Rounders to the final of The Sunday Times Sportswomen of the Year Awards 2017

Woman who created local rounders league makes final shortlist for Community Award at The Sunday Times Sportswomen of the Year Awards 2017 in association with Vitality.

Rashida Salloo, from Dewsbury, has made the final shortlist for the Community Award in recognition of her exceptional contribution to the local community as founder of Ready Steady Active, a community health and fitness initiative based in Batley and Dewsbury.

The project provides sport and physical opportunities to hundreds of girls and women, with significant focus on those from BAME (Black, Asian & Minority Ethnic) backgrounds.

Rashida encourages many participants to become leaders and activators in their own right, and has also created a local community rounders league, which engages with more than 60 women and girls on a weekly basis.

Rashida SallooSuch is the contribution that Rashida has made to the local community, that one of her tennis initiatives won the Tennis Foundation Special Recognition Award at the 2016 British Ethnic Diversity Sports Awards, and she is a well-deserved nominee for this award.

Lining up against three other finalists, the winner will be decided on a public vote, which will close at mid-day on Monday 16th October. The Community Award honours individuals who have actively engaged different groups of people within their community through sport. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the prestigious SWOTY Awards, which celebrate the outstanding contributions that elite athletes, coaches, community volunteers and inspirational women have made to sport. The winner will be announced on the evening of Thursday 26th October, at the Awards ceremony in the Hilton London Bankside hotel.
