Rounders Young Leaders Award (for 14+ years)

About the Course:
The course is a 6 hour Rounders specific course which builds on the skills already gained during the Sports Leader Award. The course is generally delivered at schools and colleges, but can also be organised for other organisations e.g. Guides etc.


Facility Requirements:
A 4 badminton court sized sports hall and classroom area are required (including facilities to use PowerPoint).


What are the benefits of doing this course?
The course will enable a Rounders Young Leader to lead rounders sessions in the presence of a suitably qualified coach or teacher.


What will Rounders Young Leaders learn?
Rounders Young Leaders will learn howto:

  • Run a rounders specific warm-up
  • Organise a simple practice for a Rounders skill (Catching, Bowling or Batting)
  • Organise an appropriate small game
  • Umpire a match for children in Key Stage 2
  • Assist in the planning, organising and running of rounders festivals and tournaments
  • Adapt a game of Rounders
  • Interpret the Rounders EnglandCoach and Umpire Pathways


Who can attend?
The RYLA is aimed at students in Year 9 and over / 14 years+ and who have completed a minimum of 1 module of the Sports Leader Award.


Do Rounders Young Leaders need to bring anything to the course?
Rounders Young Leaders will need to wear suitable sports clothing. Participants will be expected to take part in the activities.


What will Rounders Young Leaders receive?

  • RYLA Handbook
  • Rounders EnglandSimplified Rules
  • RYLA Certificate of attendance
  • Preliminary Umpire Certificate
  • Rounders England Membership for 1 year (until 31st March)

 

How long does the course last?
6 hours (excl. breaks) – Usually run over 1 day, but can be split into 2 x 3 hours sessions if necessary (dependent on Tutor availability).


 


Who can deliver the RYLA course?

  • The RYLA course is delivered by an approved Rounders England RYLA Tutor.
  • P.E. Teachers who wish to deliver the course may do so after completing an application form and attending a RYLA Orientation course.  Teachers will also need to have individual, school or SSPmembership with Rounders England. Please contact the Coaching Administrator for further details.


How much does the Rounders Young Leaders Award cost?
Resource Fee: £10 per Learner + post and packaging (additional £18.00)

NOTE: Minimum of 12 & maximum of 20 Learners per course

Tutor Fee: £180 + travel (up to a maximum of £30 per course) for external Tutors.

P.E. teachers may choose to waive the Tutor fee if they deliver in their own school, therefore the cost would be for resources (and p & p) only.
