Sport England Funded Interventions to Support Grow and Sustain

1. ‘More people playing more often’
Growing adult participation through taster days, festivals and corporate events and setting up new clubs and leagues. As well as developing ‘Indoor Rounders’ so the game can be also be played in the winter, and with a wider audience by involving more people with disabilities.
This will be underpinned by a published participant pathway, volunteer development plan (2010) and a facility plan (2011)
The intervention will be delivered by three Regional Rounders Officers in the London, South East and East regions, as well as selected County Sport Partnerships in other parts of the country. A further Regional Rounders Officer will be appointed in 2010.

2. PESSYP
Deliver coaching in after school clubs, festivals in primary and secondary schools and setting up indoor winter and summer junior leagues in selected School Sport Partnerships. Working with School Sport Partnerships and colleges to deliver the Rounders Young Leaders Award and to place young volunteers in clubs and at events.
Establishing STAR centres (Satellite Training Academies for Rounders) focused on the community where they can receive high quality coaching and take part in competitions on a regular basis.
Working with the Youth Sport Trust and BUCS to implement a competition structure for schools and colleges which has exit routes to community clubs and elite participation.

3. Competition Structure
Develop and implement a competition strategy that supports regular adult competition as well as a pathway for talented Rounders players.
Link the structure from its current strength in schools through to the FE and HE sectors, adult club competitions at regional level and support the development of the national squads. Run events and competitions where there are gaps at present.

4. More Coaches
Align coaching to the UK Coaching Framework, and develop and support coaches and coach educators through an appropriate coaching pathway mapped against the framework.
Deliver umpiring courses, coaching for teacher’s courses, and UKCC level 1 and 2 courses to increase the pool of skilled coaches and umpires to support the Grow, PESSYP and Competition interventions.
Increase and train the coach educator workforce to meet the demand for coaching qualifications.

5. Infrastructure Development
Support the core team and volunteers of Rounders England to develop the governance, operations and events, marketing and communications, I.T. systems, and commercial programmes. Provide sound systems and procedures to enable effective management and development of the organisation which will support future growth.
Support the players, members and volunteers of Rounders England so that they have an excellent ‘Rounders experience’, encouraging them to continue to participate in their chosen field.
