Champion of Champions 2019: Birmingham

Champion of Champions

On Saturday 7th September we held our 2nd Champion of Champions tournament at Holford Drive Sports Hub in Birmingham on a dry and eventually sunny day!

The day saw 6 teams take part from all over the country and we witnessed some amazing matches, catches and dispatches! The teams were a mixture of either winning teams from leagues or an amalgamation of different teams from a league. The way that this tournament brought these people together was a credit to the sport of rounders. The sportsmanship between all teams was brilliant and exactly what you’d want to see when watching a sporting event.

The umpires on the day were some of the best in the business and the standard of rounders was top notch.  We watched some brilliant strategic fielding, some fantastic batting and saw plenty of rounders scored!

The competition was a round robin style where every team played each other and boy, did we have some close games!  At one point we thought that one of the finalists was going to be decided by rounders difference but with a great win in their last round robin, Smart Ladies secured their place in the final ensuring a rematch against Somervale.

The sun came out just in time for the final to start and the standard of rounders was awesome from both teams, with Somervale Squad this time getting their revenge!

Congratulations to Somervale Squad, winners of Rounders England’s Champion of Champions 2019!
