Teaching

As you learn about Rounders, you will play an important role in the development of how the game is taught in your school. Your knowledge will enable you to deliver high-quality lessons across the curriculum. You will learn how to teach a diverse range of aspects of the game, developing key physical literacy skills and tactical and strategic application of the rules. It will be your responsibility to instil confidence in every child and give them an enthusiasm for exercise and team sport, regardless of their natural ability.

PRIMARY COACHING FOR TEACHERS (Practical Course)

  • Teaching Primary Rounders (online course)

    This course will introduce you to the basic principles of striking and fielding in Rounders in a Primary school setting and how it can be applied to the National Curriculum.

    This course is useful for:

    • Primary School Teachers
    • Coaches who oversee Primary school lessons/After School Clubs
    • Any other Leaders who run rounders sessions in Primary Schools

    Course length

    Each module should take between 5-10 minutes. You can complete each module separately or in 1 sitting, it’s completely up to you.

    Course Assessment

    To pass and earn your certificate you will need to receive 100% on the progress bar. Throughout the modules you will also need to complete ‘Knowledge checks’. On completion of the whole course you will be able to download and print off your certificate.

    Learning Outcomes

    The aim of this course is to introduce you to the basic principles of striking and fielding within Rounders.

    This e-Learning course will equip you with the necessary knowledge and skills to:

    • Develop key skills associated with rounders (e.g. throwing and catching, bowling and batting)
    • Deliver rounders-specific Small Games
    • Adapt the game of rounders to meet a range of learners’ needs
    • Set up and run the Junior Rounders games

  • Primary Coaching for Teachers (practical course)

    This three hour ‘coaching for teachers’ course is designed to introduce teachers and leaders to the basic principles of the striking and fielding activities of Rounders. It is particularly aimed at Key Stages 1 and 2.

    Learners must be:

    • Primary Teachers, PE specialists, non PE specialist teachers who contribute to extra-curricular work in both mainstream and special schoolS
    • Adults actively involved in coaching extra-curricular sports and recommended to attended by the school
    • Physical education students

    There is a minimum requirement of 12 and a maximum requirement of 20 learners per course.

    NOTE: The course organiser must hold an education membership to Rounders England.

    Facility Requirements

    A four badminton court sized sports hall and classroom are required (incl facilities to use PowerPoint).

    Learning

    The course will have the following elements;

    • Introduction to the basic skills and activities related to rounders
    • Delivery of rounders-specific small games
    • Adapted Games
    • Set up and play (with simplified rules) the full game of Rounders

    What you need to bring

    Learners will be expected to take part in activities so come in sportswear. Bring refreshments as Rounders England cannot guarantee these facilities at the course venues.

    • Small Games Cards
    • Basic Skills Poster
    • Simplified Rules
    • Scoresheet
    • Certificate of Attendance

    Cost

    £30 per learner*
    *learner fees do not include the cost of the venue hire. This needs to be organised and paid for by the course organiser separately.

  • Secondary Coaching for Teachers (practical course)

    This six hour course is designed to help teachers and leaders develop tactics involved in Rounders. It is particularly aimed at Key Stages 3 and 4.

    This course is for:

    • Secondary School Teachers, PE specialists, non PE specialist teachers who contribute to extra-curricular work in both mainstream and special schools
    • Adults actively involved in coaching extra-curricular sports and recommended to attended by the school
    • Physical education students

    There is a min requirement of 12 and a max requirement of 20 learners per course.

    NOTE: The course organiser must hold an education membership to Rounders England.

    • The playing and officiating of games
