The Oxford Academy’s Very Own Rounders Hero

Rounders Hero

The Oxford Academy has been preparing for the Rounders season for months, and earlier this year the teacher behind the Rounders preparation, passion, organisation and team spirit got more than he bargained for one Friday assembly…

Mr. G Thomas continues to go above and beyond to ensure that the pupils of Oxford Academy have the best Rounders experience possible. The positive energy he brings to the pitch inspires pupils and ignites the passion for the game. Mrs. A Pearce nominated Mr. Thomas for the Rounders Hero Award and told Rounders England;

“Mr. Thomas’s knowledge of the game has a massive impact and this has shown through how successful our teams have performed at our local competitions. In the past few years, he has committed to taking three teams to Nationals (year 8s, year 9 mixed and year 10/11)”.

Competing in the Nationals enhances Rounders knowledge and gives pupils the chance to experience a sport at national level.

“The girls at the Academy love Rounders that much, that Mr. Thomas will always run extra sessions for them whenever possible. If there is a certain skill the girls want to work on he will give up his time to coach them to make them a better performer”.

Rounders England Tutor, Adam Colley, had the pleasure of presenting Mr. Thomas with the Award, which was received with a massive round of applause from both pupils and staff!

Thank you Mr. Thomas for creating such a fantastic opportunity and representing Rounders is a positive way that allows everyone to get involved! You are a real credit to The Oxford Academy and to Rounders England!
