England Rounders player, Nicolla Weekes appointed as National School Sport Champion for Rounders

Ahead of her debut presenting one of the Youth Sport Trust’s online After School Sport Club sessions, Rounders England announce that Nicolla Weekes has been appointed National School Sport Champion for Rounders.

As a National School Sport Champion, Nicolla will join other international athletes who are happy to use their public profile and voice to reinforce the value and importance of Physical Education and School and Youth Sport to young people and our communities.

Since her appointment Nicolla’s first assignment will be to present one of the Youth Sport Trust’s online After School Sport Club sessions. These free sessions will be available daily on YouTube. Nicolla’s session will be broadcast at 5pm on Thursday 25th March. The Youth Sport Trust established the After School Sport Club to help all young people feel part of a club while many schools were shut and youth sport was on hold.

Speaking about her involvement, Nicolla commented:

“I am so excited to be a national champion for an amazing children’s charity, Youth Trust Sport. This is a charity that sees the value of investing in the next generations well-being to give them a brighter future. Children are eager to learn and try new things so if we are able to provide them with the opportunity to explore many different activities then who knows how they will shine! I can not wait to hold a rounders session that can be done in a living room. Especially in times like now in the pandemic where we can bring some fun and games to many homes. As we start to get back to normal, it will be great to work with the Youth Trust Sport to help children enjoy the benefits of play and sports.”

Rounders England CEO, Natalie Justice-Dearn expressed:

“Nicolla’s appointment as National School Sport Champion for the Youth Sport Trust, is testament to her dedication to sport and physical exercise and a credit to her love of Rounders. She embodies the qualities that are expected of a National School Sport Champion and she deserves this opportunity to be on a national platform. Here at Rounders England we will support her on this pathway and are incredibly proud of her achievement.”

Youth Sport Trust Chief Executive Ali Oliver said:

“We are thrilled to have Nicolla Weekes join our team of National School Sport Champions. Sport has such a crucial role to play in promoting young people’s wellbeing and it has never been more apparent than it is now. We look forward to working with Rounders England and Nicolla to help more young people and communities across the UK enjoy the life changing benefits that come from sport and Physical Education.”
